Arturo's wife walked out on him, and now he devotes all his time to his job. He is a professor of psychiatry at the university hospital in Rome, and specializes in children's problems. When Pippi is brought in for a consultation, it is alleged that she is an epileptic, but the good doctor thinks otherwise. He convinces her reluctant parents to leave her in his care, and through a series of brilliant manipulations, he manages to cure her. The world of mental illness and how it is handled in Italy are not seen through rose-colored glasses, here, and reviewers found tht what could have been a mere tear-jerker manages to be a convincing, gripping drama.

Da die drei auch noch über ein Baumhaus verfügen, scheint es für Dani ein spannender und schöner Urlaub zu werden. Doch in diese Idylle schlägt dann die Nachricht wie ein Blitz ein, dass sich seine Eltern (Bärbel Böhl/Joachim Lätsch) scheiden lassen wollen.
Das ist für den Jungen eine ganz schlimme Mitteilung, und er ist froh, dass er mit Lucie darüber reden kann, weshalb er auch länger im Ferienort bleibt als seine Eltern. Dani ist normalerweise das Leben in der Großstadt gewöhnt, doch jetzt ist er froh, dass er sich in diesem ruhigen Dorf mit der Schreckensnachricht auseinandersetzen kann. Lucie gibt sich große Mühe, für Ablenkungen zu sorgen, spricht ihm Mut zu und versucht, ihm Lösungen für sein Problem zu offerieren. Aber Dani kann sich zum Beispiel nicht entscheiden, bei welchem Elternteil er nach der Scheidung leben soll, was Lucie zu dem Vorschlag verleitet, dass Dani doch bei ihr auf dem Lande bleiben soll. Er ist für sie inzwischen ein guter Freund geworden, so dass sie über eine Trennung zum Ende der Ferien sehr traurig wäre.

SE. Trakterna kring Tullingesjön utanför Stockholm. Några barackliknande hyreshus vid sjön har i folkmun fått namnet Seppan efter den närbelägna fabriken Separator AB (senare Alfa-Laval), där de flesta av familjefäderna i husen arbetar. Nästan alla familjerna i Seppan är invandrare: finnar, ryssar, österrikare, polacker. I närheten ligger också lite mer ståtliga disponentvillor där de svenska fabrikscheferna bor.
Vintern 1961. Svenska Sara, som bor i en av disponentvillorna, och finska Pirjo, som bor i Seppan, är trots klasskillnaderna bästa kompisar. Deras föräldrar tycks vara varandras motsatser. Saras mamma är kylig och förbjudande, och Sara söker sig till fadern för kärlek. Pirjos pappa, en veteran från finska vinterkriget, är däremot lynnig och våldsam, i synnerhet när han blir full.

Just the Wind (Hungarian: Csak a szél) is a 2012 Hungarian drama film directed by Benedek Fliegauf. The film competed in competition at the 62nd Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Jury Grand Prix. The film was selected as the Hungarian entry for the Best Foreign Language Oscar at the 85th Academy Awards, but it did not make the final shortlist.
It is based on an actual series of killings in Hungary. The plot however is fiction and focuses on a Romany family living close by.
News quickly spreads of the murder of a Romany family in a Hungarian village. The perpetrators have escaped and nobody claims to know who might have committed the crime. For another Romany family living close by, the murder only serves to confirm their latent, carefully repressed fears. Far away in Canada the head of the family decides that his wife, children and their grandfather must join him as soon as possible. Living in fear of the racist terror that surrounds them and feeling abandoned by the silent majority, the family tries to get through the day after the attack. By nightfall when darkness descends on the village the family pushes the beds closer together than usual. Yet their hope of escaping the madness proves illusory. Based on an actual series of killings in Hungary that claimed the lives of eight people in less than a year, Bence Fliegauf portrays the pogrom-like atmosphere which breeds such violence. The camera stays hot on the heels of the protagonists, making the breathless escalation of events physically palpable.

One of them narrates, wistfully explaining how their mother abandoned them and calls them once in a while to see how they are doing or tell them she loves them. The three kids do as they please, roaming the streets, running out of restaurants without paying for food, and shoplifting from the local grocery store. They eat whatever and whenever they want, gorging themselves on sweets. They beg for change on the Metro and show up late for school in tattered, dirty clothes. All the while, they try to keep the fact that they are alone a secret from the world of adults.

Benedetto è orfano: di lui si occupa soltanto una zia nubile e libertina, che lo rimprovera continuamente delle sue monellerie, lo riempie di scrupoli religiosi e medita di sbarazzarsene affidandolo a un orfanotrofio. Di notte il ragazzo non riesce a dormire perché ha paura di certi rumori; la zia gli dice che sono rimorsi per le sue cattiverie, invece li causa lei stessa ricevendo uomini. Anche gli amici di Benedetto sono pervasi dagli scrupoli, temono di essere in peccato mortale per aver guardato, nascosti nei campi, sotto le gonne delle contadine intente alla raccolta. Per questo, mentre si appresta a ricevere la prima comunione, Benedetto vive l'avvenimento in un clima di religiosità esasperata. Nella preparazione al sacramento, il curato don Quirino distribuisce ai bambini le effigi degli "amici celesti", i santi che dovrebbero assisterli finché riceveranno Gesù. A Benedetto tocca sant'Eusebio, martirizzato sul rogo.

A fantasy about a woman’s attempts to exorcise the influence of her sexually domineering father.
Peter Whitehead and Niki de Saint Phalle's 1973 film Daddy (UK) was an angry retort to oppressive regimes, particularly that most destructive one of childhood sexual abuse. But its power lies equally in its ambivalence and, in the end, its profound negativity. While Whitehead and de Saint Phalle resolutely sought to free representations of women from the triad of narcissism, masochism, and passivity, insisting that the feminine is home to the full range of aggressive and sexual drives, they also stripped away even the most facile hopes for a better world. In this, Whitehead and de Saint Phalle joined other creative radicals of the 1960s and 1970s (such as poets like Sylvia Plath and Anne Sexton, who wrote eloquently about both female resistance and resignation in the face of paternal sexual abuse) in presenting a pessimistic account of late modernity.
In the section entitled "The Monster," Daddy sexually abuses the Daughter during a game of Blind Man. The daughter's response is ambivalent: she wants to scream; she promises to "lead [Daddy]to many countries" and to "conquer the world" for him; she commands "Down on your knees Daddy, say please say please... Dirty dirty Daddy." The Daughter's abuse is symptomatic of the Daddy's cruelty generally: Daddy also beats and rapes the Mother. When the Daughter dons her Mother's wig, Daddy punishes her by locking her in a dark cupboard.

Over the span of a year, filmmakers Marte (Norway) and Jéro (South Korea) exchange visual letters, documenting their everyday lives.
Marte Vold (37) and Jéro Yun’s (35) collaboration began in 2015 when they were asked to team up for CPH:LAB, the talent development and production programme at the Copenhagen International Film Festival in Denmark. In the course of the following year, Marte and Jero exchanged visual letters, documenting their everyday lives in Oslo (Norway) and Seoul (South Korea), respectively.
LETTERS is the culmination of this exchange — a conversation spanning continents, cultures, gender and lifestyles. Touching on heritage, kinship, and the mundane and subtle poetry of our embodied lives, LETTERS is a meditation on the connections that bind, unite and release us.

employment in the Republic difficult despite his having fought for the
IRA, and when he does find money, he spends the money on drink.

Mockingbird Don't Sing is a 2001 American independent film based on the true story of Genie, a modern-day feral child. The film is told from the point of view of Dr. Susan Curtiss (whose fictitious name is Sandra Tannen), a professor of linguistics at University of California, Los Angeles. Although the film is based on a true story, all of the names are fictitious for legal reasons (e.g. the pseudonym "Genie" has been changed to "Katie"). The film was released to US theaters on May 4, 2001. It won first prize for best screenplay at the Rhode Island International Film Festival (tied with Wings of Hope).
On November 4, 1970 on The CBS Evening News, Walter Cronkite reported on a true, horrific story that was about to rock the country. A 13-year-old girl was discovered in the small Los Angeles suburb of Arcadia who was still in diapers, barely able to walk and unable to speak. Kept in severe isolation by her parents with virtually no human contact for more than 10 years, she was confined to her bedroom, tied to her potty-chair and left to fend for herself. As Cronkite noted, it was one of the most horrendous cases of child abuse ever to surface. Much like an animal, the girl spat, sniffed and clawed. She had none of the traits or characteristics of conventional human behavior, nor could she comprehend such modern societal conveniences as silverware or bathroom etiquette. Her emotional development was practically non-existent, and she could not speak. With this heartbreaking story, the world was being introduced to a fragile, beautiful teenager who seemed and behaved like an infant, or Wild Child.

Historien foregår i år 1850. Den handler om en 9 år gammel pige, ved navn Tinke (Sarah Juel Werner). En beskidt og sulten lille pige. Begge hendes forældre (Karin Rørbech & Morten Nørby) er døde og kun ved et mirakel har hun overlevet i ødemarken. Hun møder en hyrdedreng, Larus (Peter Jeppe Hansen), der giver hende mælk og brød. Han får lidt efter lidt hendes tillid og forstår at hun vil sulte ihjel, hvis ikke han hjælper hende. Larus tager Tinke med tilbage til gården hvor han arbejder. Bonden (Erik Wedersøe) vil sende hende på fattiggården, men hans kone (Lisbeth Dahl) derimod vil beholde Tinke og opdrage hende som den datter, hun aldrig fik. Men Tinke er vild som et dyr og svær at lære gode manerer - for hun har andre planer, en plan hun har haft siden moderens død: På moderens dødsleje, modtager Tinke en værdifuld halskæde fra hende. Moderen fortæller at hun stammer fra en meget rig familie, men at hun flygtede med Tinkes far og sidenhen aldrig så sine forældre igen. Hun fortæller Tinke at hun ved hjælp af halskæden skal finde sine bedsteforældre. Da bonden finder ud af at Tinke kommer fra en rig familie, beslutter han sig for at finde bedsteforældrene, for at få dem til at betale for hende. edsteforældrene bliver fundet og de tager Tinke med hjem, men Tinke har svært ved at bevise at hun er deres barnebarn. Hun har ved et uheld mistet halskæden...

Serien handlar om 11-åriga Loella Nilsson, som bor i ett torp i skogen tillsammans med två yngre syskon. Modern arbetar till sjöss halva året, men brukar komma hem på vintrarna. Fadern har hon aldrig träffat.
För att klara tillvaron har Loella två vänner till sin hjälp: skogsmannen Fredrik Olsson och tant Adina. Pappa Pellerin är inte Loellas pappa, utan en fågelskrämma som hon har ställt upp, dels för att skrämma bort främlingar, dels som en plats där de tre vännerna kan lämna saker till varandra.
En dag får Loella ett brev från sin mamma där hon meddelar att hon inte kommer hem den här vintern, då hon fått ett välbetalt arbete i Amerika. Hon förklarar vidare, att hon ordnat så att vänner till henne skall ta hand om småsyskonen, samt att Loella fått en plats på ett upptagningshem för barn. Loella blir mycket besviken och motsätter sig detta till en början, men faller till föga när tant Adina hävdar att ‘det finns en mening med allt’ – något som får Loella att intala sig, att hon kommer att träffa sin pappa om hon följer med in till staden.
Inledningsvis blir vistelsen på barnhemmet och i skolan konfliktfylld, och Loella har svårt att anpassa sig, men efter hand möter hon människor som blir hennes vänner. Sökandet efter fadern tar upp stor del av Loellas tid, och vi får ta del av hennes dagdrömmar om hur hon kommer att möta honom.

Prakticky celý svět zná osudy židovských dětí z terezínského ghetta, tragédii dětí z Lidic, ale málokdo ví o tragickém údělu několika tisíc dětí ze smíšených česko-německých manželství v okupovaném pohraničí. Skutečný příběh malého chlapce, který popsal ve své knize Děti za mřížemi spisovatel Joža Mikula, zaujal i filmaře. Pod výstižným názvem "Uloupené dětství" zachycuje život Mirka v německém Kinderheimu, kam se dostal po smrti své české matky. Rozhodnutím soudu je na žádost otce chlapec odebrán z péče babičky a jeho výchova svěřena německým úřadům. Výchovou se rozumí poněmčování. Metody, které zde byly používány, ani vzdáleně nepřipomínaly svůj vznešený název. Nelidské zacházení a psychické i fyzické strádání poznamenalo i Mirka.

The methods used here or remotely did not remind of their noble name. MIRC also commented on the treatment and mental and physical deprivation.

Der Fan (transl. The Fan) is a 1982 West German horror film directed by Eckhart Schmidt. The film follows a disturbed teenage girl's obsessive love for a pop singer named R who, after meeting her, eventually reveals that he does not love her back, leading to disastrous consequences.
An uncut and restored version was released by Mondo Macabro on DVD and Blu-ray in 2015.
The hero-worship that Simone has for a pop singer is built to a crescendo until she passes out when she finally sees him up-close in a crowd of fans pushing him for autographs. She is later shocked when he lets her know that he does not love her. In an instant, she is caught "in a trance" and feels a murderous urge that is bigger than the both of them.
In her contract, popular German TV moderator Désirée Nosbusch agreed to shoot the nude scenes together with Bodo Staiger. After stills from those scenes were published during the marketing campaign of the film, she tried to stop the release. After a long trial that caused a scandal in German press, she finally lost and the film was released in the original version by director Eckhart Schmidt. Schmidt and Nosbusch reconciled their struggle years after that and became friends again.

EN. The Snow Queen (Finnish: Lumikuningatar) is a 1986 Finnish fantasy film directed by Päivi Hartzell. The film was selected as the Finnish entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 60th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.
In this adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen's longest story, the beautiful Snow Queen has captured two children and now keeps them apart. She has inserted a sliver of her own special ice into the eye of the boy, so that his heart will turn to ice and will be a proper match for hers. The boy's sister, meanwhile, has won free and attempts to find her brother. When she does, the warmth of her love for him melts his frozen heart and defeats the Snow Queen decisively.
